Photos .... when computer files turn into clutter
I know that a lot of people, myself included, love the fact that they can snap a picture and never have to touch a roll of film. You can delete the "mistakes" without having to pay to see them. The new technology has made documenting all of life's events much more convenient. But what do you do with all of those files? Have they been dumped onto your computer, only to be lost forever in the bottomless pit that is your hard-drive?
I sort all of the photos on my PC by event, location, or person. A file directory path might break-down like this:
My DocumentsMy Albums
Fall_07_Vacation
"picture file name"
This way I know that ALL of my personal photos are in one place, and I can find them easily. Now, my professional photos (used for this website) are kept in a business folder, rather than in "My Documents", but they're set up in the same fashion.
My personal Flickr account is set up much in the same way. I’ve purchased a “pro” account so I can create as many sets and collections as necessary.
One last area that I've set up on my PC is the "action" area on my desktop. I have a temp folder labeled “from camera” that I keep for the photos I have downloaded from my camera, but have yet to subdivide. One more than I’ve labeled “for printing”. These are photos that have been photoshopped and need to be sent out for printing. (Now if I could actually get my act together and send the files out so I can use one of my many empty frames).
